Micelles, Liposomes and Niora’s Cleansers

Micellar water is a new trend in skin care. Micellar water is designed to remove makeup, dirt, and oil from the skin with a cotton pad. The secret to micellar water are complex molecules called micelles. Micelles are complex molecules that arrange themselves in nano-sized spheres in water. When micellar water is applied to the skin, and then wiped off with a cotton pad, the nano-spheres break apart and are activated. The activated molecules  have one end that adheres to the cotton pad  and another  end  that adheres to the oils, sebum, makeup and dirt on the skin, allowing the skin to be cleaned simply by wiping with the cotton pad. 

Niora’s moisturizing   Alpha Clear Cleanser and Replenishing Cleanser, however,  use a more advanced and effective  nano-sphere formulation using phospholipid based liposomes. 

Phospholipid liposome nano-spheres are formed from extracts of lecithin whereas the micelle structure relies on a surfactant (ie detergent). Liposomes are larger  than micelles and have the advantage of being able to carry moisturizers into the skin.

We incorporate jojoba oil  into our lipid liposome nano-structures. This enhances it’s ability to dissolve oils, sebum and cellular debris that clog the skin, and provides additional moisturizing ability.  Its fatty acid esters, the constituent elements of liposomes, are similar to the phospholipids of the skin cell membranes and naturally help hydrate and moisturize the skin. However, the big advantage is that the Niora lipid liposome activates when you massage the cleanser into the skin with your fingers, and can rinsed off the skin with fresh water. The jojoba carried in the liposomal structure is absorbed into the skin and the  result is deeper, more complete cleaning and significantly more moisturizer imparted to the skin.
